End Of Year - Exhibition Approaching

29/10/2018

I can’t believe it has been over a year since my last posting here.  My intention was to be fairly regular with my news.  My only excuse is that this last year has seen quite a bit of upheaval and change.

As planned, we sold our Maleny property.  We moved to a three bedroom apartment in Teneriffe, by the Brisbane River.  This was somewhat of a test, to see if we could manage in an apartment. I found I couldn’t function well in a very restricted studio space, so after six months we moved again.  We are now in a house in Auchenflower, with ample room, and I am painting well.

This disruption has not been very conducive to the free flow of my painting.  My paintings evolve best when I can establish a certain creative rhythm.  When I am in that environment everything flows nicely, however, unwanted interruptions can play havoc with it.

In this past year, despite the mess, I have experienced some intermittent periods of good painting times, so I have managed to produce some very satisfying pieces, but it has not been the continuity and easy flow that I usually look for.

Those following my progress will notice that lately I have held some different types of exhibitions.  An auction, which is always fraught with danger, then a one weekend exhibition in Brisbane, and a smaller feature exhibition at Art On Cairncross in Maleny.  These have occurred as the opportunity presented, and have had to fit in with our erratic movements.  Fortunately all managed to produce adequate sales, and also some commissions, so although it has been a strange year, we have still managed to keep moving ahead.

One of our interruptions was a trip back to Italy in July. This of course is not really an interruption, and is always a delight, re-energising my love of those subjects.  I had planned to make my end of year exhibition at Graydon Gallery a mixture of different subjects, heading in some new directions, but our return to Italy resulted in finding some lovely new material, so the show now is basically all Italian.  Italy was in mid summer, with everything in full vibrant colour, and that has influenced these current paintings.

My exhibition begins on 27 November at Graydon Gallery, 29 Merthyr Rd., New Farm, Brisbane,  You are most welcome to join us for drinks on Friday 30 November, 6 to 8 pm, to launch the show.  If you are not on our mailing list and would like an invitation, please register on our MAILING LIST page.

One month out from the exhibition I still have finishing off to do.  I have not yet posted these exhibition paintings on the site, but this is how my studio looks at the moment.

I hope to see you at the exhibition.
