Twenty Six Fish
Oil on Italian Linen - 183 x 61 cm (Framed Size: 186.5 x 64.5 x 5.5 cm) - $14,000
This painting owes its creation to a visit to Tokyo in 1989, when I held a one-man exhibition there at The Striped House Museum Of Art. We were provided accommodation in a very special place with a beautiful Japanese garden. There I saw these fish in a meandering pond that flowed through the whole landscape. I produced several small paintings at the time, but decided to do this larger one for my recent exhibition in Brisbane, which had the theme of “water”. This one is darker in tone than I usually paint, and unfortunately a photograph loses some of the subtle colours that give the water its particular quality. However, I am very pleased with the painting, and it has been much admired.
