Volterra is a another of the Tuscan walled towns, similar to the famous San Gimignano, and in the same region, but not as crowded with tourist traffic. It has lots of narrow streets, and interesting buildings with lovely soft patinas, which make it a delightful place for me to find subjects. These hill towns are mainly constructed of stone, so often present as quite monochromatic, but their true interest for me comes with the constant play of light and shade during the day. This really creates lovely compositions and brings the streets to life.
