Lucca is a lovely walled Roman town north east of Pisa, and about 45 minutes drive from our Italian home. It has many narrow streets and interesting buildings within its walls, including many churches. Over the last thirty years I have produced many paintings of different aspects of Lucca. This subject is part of the front facade of the Church of San Pietro Somaldi, near the famous Lucca amphitheatre. I love the simple, flat composition, with strong abstract overtones.
