Wine Vat Facade
Oil on board - 122 x 92 cm (Framed size: 126 x 94 x 5.5 cm) - $14,000
This facade is the front of one of the two old wine vats in the cellar of our house in Soiana, Tuscany. The black hole held a large rubber plug with a tap to drain off the wine. The sculptural shapes below channelled any spillage. I love the simple geometry, with years of the wine maker's chalk markings on the front. I added the old terracotta pot to provide a point of colour, making a subject with very shallow visual relief, which I really enjoy painting.
